Pulsar specifies both a built-in battery and a removable APS 5, with a combined twelve-hour rating at 22°C. That can be relevant when an observation session extends well beyond a short evening walk. The figure must be read as a combined rating, not the endurance of the removable pack alone.

Its 640 × 480 detector and 35mm lens sit behind a published 12.5° horizontal view. Compare that framing with your actual search area before treating Oryx as a universal premium pick. A broad search in nearby terrain may still favor a wider compact optic, while repeated observations across a known area may give the integrated measurement function a clearer role.

There is a tangible carrying cost. The listed weight with battery is 500g, compared with 310g for XG30 Compact. Ask whether the monocular will remain in hand, ride on a strap or go in a pocket between checks. We have not tested comfort or balance, so those practical questions should be resolved through a demonstration or suitable return policy.

Consider Oryx when distance logging and extended power planning both matter. If you only need a compact thermal view, compare XG30 before paying for additional systems. If you want measurement but usually finish within a shorter session, compare ReachIR 35-640 as another optical and power arrangement. The appropriate purchase is the one whose extra functions have a defined place in your routine.
