The compromise to weigh

The Pro’s ten-hour runtime rating is shorter than TS004’s eleven-hour figure. Its 650-yard detection claim must not be read as identification at that distance; TOPDON lists identification separately.

The buying decision

The strongest reason to compare TS004 Pro with TS004 is not the larger lens in isolation. TOPDON pairs that lens with a larger native detector, leaving their published horizontal angles close. A buyer who enjoys broad searches therefore has a useful upgrade path to investigate: additional sensor samples without a dramatic change in how much terrain enters the frame.

That is a specification-based interpretation. We have not measured image quality, and more pixels do not remove the influence of weather, focus or subject size. If you are dissatisfied with distant identification on an entry device, look for Pro footage that matches the distances and conditions causing the problem. Enlarged display graphics cannot answer that question reliably.

TOPDON makes the limits easier to discuss by publishing separate detection and identification figures. Its Pro identification number is much shorter than the detection number. When you compare this model with a competing listing that only advertises one enormous range, first establish what that competing number means. A like-for-like answer is more valuable than the longest number in a chart.

There is also a small endurance tradeoff within the pair: the Pro carries a lower manufacturer runtime rating. Decide whether your evening sessions need the original’s extra claimed hour, or whether image sampling is the more important priority. Once that choice is clear, confirm that the Amazon option is explicitly TS004 Pro rather than the visually related TS004.
