The buying decision

The 15-384 answers a more useful question than whether a larger lens is better: can you keep a broad scanning view while increasing the native detector count? AGM’s published figures say yes within this family. The model combines a 384 × 288 detector with a 17.5° horizontal field, matching the quoted scene angle of the entry 10-256.

That makes the pair a sensible way to assess an upgrade. Instead of changing every part of the viewing brief at once, examine whether the extra native samples justify the difference in current offers. We have not tested their images side by side. Relevant recorded examples, using comparable distances and ordinary viewing settings, would give you a better basis for judging the benefit than promotional maximum zoom.

The other 15mm Taipan V2 is not interchangeable. The 15-256 has a narrower published field, illustrating why the complete model suffix must remain visible in a shortlist. If you are buying specifically to sweep a wide area, confirm 15-384 in the Amazon variation selector and included documentation. A shared product photograph cannot establish the sensor inside.

AGM rates this version up to 6.5 hours and uses replaceable 18650 power. For buyers comparing it with RIX Pocket K3 or TOPDON TS004 Pro, weigh the charging routine and carry format alongside sensor class. Choose the V2 15-384 when its documented width matches your searches; do not convert a scanning recommendation into a promise to identify every warm shape at the far edge.
