The tighter field shows less surrounding terrain than 10-256. It also retains the same native detector size, so a higher starting magnification should not be mistaken for a higher-resolution sensor.

The buying decision

The V2 15-256 deserves its own comparison because it changes the optical task, not merely the model label. AGM gives it a 15mm lens, 2× base magnification and an 11.7° horizontal view. For a buyer repeatedly checking an open lane, that arrangement may be more relevant than the broad 10-256. This is a suitability inference from specifications, without hands-on testing.

Do not interpret the larger initial subject view as a sensor upgrade. Both entry Taipan variants use a 256 × 192 detector. Their difference is how the optics allocate those samples across the scene. When looking at recordings, compare the same subject distance and ordinary starting view; clips at unrelated zoom settings make a poor basis for choosing between them.

The 15-384 is the model to add if the budget can move and scanning remains important. Its native sensor is larger, and its published view is wider despite sharing the 15mm lens label. AGM rates the 15-256 up to seven hours and uses a replaceable 18650 battery. That gives the buyer a practical way to plan around repeated outings, provided the spare matches manufacturer requirements. The purchase decision comes back to your scene: favor the 15-256 when its more focused framing answers a known need, rather than choosing it simply because fifteen sounds better than ten.
